President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has renewed the contract of Uganda Investment Authority Director General Robert Mukiza for a second five-year term, citing his role in stabilising the agency and boosting investor confidence.
President Museveni wrote to the Minister of Finance Planning and Economic Development Hon Matia Kasaija and commended Mukiza for injecting new energy into the Uganda Investment Authority, crediting him with improving Uganda’s image as a competitive destination for both foreign and domestic investment.
The President said that he was informed that Mukiza has brought stability and new energy at the authority during his term, which has led to improvement in investors’ confidence in the country among others.
According to reports, key achievements under Mukiza during his first term include overseeing several notable accomplishments making Uganda top continent’s best investment destination for three consecutive years at the Annual Investment Meeting Global Investment Awards in Abu Dhabi.
President Museveni directed Uganda Investment Authority to prioritise the rapid development of industrial and business parks by government and private investors which are the key to promoting value addition, manufacturing and job creation.
He stressed that strategic land acquisition remains critical to achieving Uganda’s US 500 billion dollar economy target in the next decade and public praise and support reactions to Mukiza’s reappointment have been largely positive, with many commending his dedication and energy in transforming Uganda Investment Authority.
WHO IS ROBERT MUKIZA
Robert Mukiza has been the Director General of Uganda Investment Authority since 2022 and prior to joining the Authority, he served as the Deputy Director for the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) and Representative to Ethiopia, the African Union and United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA).
Robert Mukiza also served as a Director of Hong Kong-based Acadia Energy as Head of the United Nations Country Team Coordination Unit in Botswana; Lead Economist for the United Nations in the Maldives and and a researcher at the United Nations Research Institute for Social Development in Switzerland and has vast experience in international investment and the private sector.
He holds a Master of Science degree in International Finance and Economic Development from the University of Kent, a Bachelor of Science Degree in Quantitative Economics from Makerere University and and has studied Strategic Leadership at the Said Business School of Oxford University.
