Nabbanja in Kakumiro Town Council where she renewed her National ID

The Prime Minister Rt Hon Robinah Nabbanja yesterday joined other Ugandans to renew her National ID in Kakumiro Town Council  in Kakumiro District in the ongoing nationwide exercise.

Rt Hon Nabbanja told journalists immediately after the exercise that the ongoing Renewal of National IDs in Uganda is crucial for several reasons which include ensuring accurate national records, updating biometric data for enhanced security and meeting legal requirements for elections and other official processes.

She also noted that the renewal allows for updating of biometric data, including iris scans, to enhance security and address potential issues with deteriorating fingerprint grooves and helps maintain an accurate and up-to-date national registry, ensuring that the government has correct information about its citizens.

Rt Hon Nabbanja also said that a valid National ID is essential for participating in elections and ensuring the integrity of the electoral process and they are also necessary for accessing various government and private sector services, including financial institutions, schools and employment.

She reminded Ugandans that updating biometric data and security features on National IDs aligns with international best practices for national identity management and asked all Ugandans to embrace the exercise that will go up to November 2025.
