Deputy Speaker of Parliament at the Italian Republic Day

Deputy Speaker, Rt Hon Thomas Tayebwa has commemorated Italy’s Republic Day with a call for continued strategic partnerships that foster innovation, job creation and sustainable growth.

He made the call while celebrating the event alongside Italy’s Ambassador to Uganda Mauro Massoni, Ministers and delegates and said that Uganda remains open for investment, backed by a resilient macroeconomic environment and sustained stability.

He pointed out that the Government of Uganda has prioritised agriculture and agro-processing, tourism, mineral development and beneficiation, including oil and gas, science, technology and innovation.

Ambassador Massoni said Italy, in its relationship with Uganda, firmly believes in the power of partnership, founded on equality, mutual respect, dialogue and shared values and added that the both countries’ bilateral relations are strengthened through political engagement, collaborative projects and cultural exchanges geared towards promotion, inclusiveness, growth and ensuring dignity for all.

Massoni also made a call for the forthcoming electoral process to take place in a peaceful and harmonious atmosphere, adding that  no one should endure suffering due to political choices and Rt Hon Tayebwa said that the government has instituted mechanisms to allow whoever is not satisfied with electoral outcomes, to get a quick and fair hearing in courts of law.
