Kanungu District Council Speaker Frank Byaruhanga leading a joint council session

Kigezi and Ankole Regional Local Government Councils has held a joint sitting focusing on a motion to honor Late Dr James Musinguzi Garuga.

During the fully attended session presided over by Kanungu District Speaker, Frank Byaruhanga, the council unanimously seconded a motion to construct and rename the Hamurwa-Kelele-Kanungu Road in a memory of a road.

Rubanda District LC 5 Chairperson Ampeire Stephen Kasyaba supported Kanungu District LC 5 Chairperson Sam Arinaitwe Kajojo’s initiative to rename the Hamurwa-Kelele – Kanungu road after the late Dr James Musinguzi Garuga in honor of Dr Musinguzi outstanding achievements and lasting legacy and impact on the community.

As a celebrated entrepreneur and philanthropist, Dr Musinguzi’s contributions to sustainable tourism, environmental conservation and community development have left an indelible mark on the region and the proposed renaming of the road is a testament to his enduring legacy and the impact he had on the lives of many in the Kigezi Sub-region and the country at large.

Kinkizi West Constituency Member of Parliament Hon James Ruugi Kaberuka also supported the road renaming motion and proposed tress be plant along it, fulfilling one of the late Dr Musinguzi’s wish.

The late Dr James Musinguzi Garuga will be buried today August 11th 2025 at his ancestral home in Kashwoja in Rugyeyo Sub-county in Kanungu district and is expected to be attended by many dignitaries from all over the country and abroad.
