NEWS- The Police in Rukungiri district have arrested one suspect for questioning in connection to the death of a 45 year old Darius Rutaremwa a resident of Nyamabare cell Kibirizi parish Buhunga sub county Rukungiri district.
ASP Elly Maate the Kigezi Region Police spokesman confided to this reporter that Rutaremwa was allegedly murdered at unknown time during the night of Friday, 29th December 2023 at Nyamabare cell, Kibirizi Parish in Buhunga Sub County of Rukungiri district.
According to Maate, it’s alleged that during the month of September 2023, Kusasira Merab, the mother of the deceased, sold family land in cooperation with the deceased to Kabagambe (buyer).
Other family members got annoyed especially Muhanguzi Gerevazio, who started threatening to kill the the buyer Thomas Twinamatsiko, the sellers Merab and Rutaremwa Darius now the deceased.
This prompted the police at Buhunga police post to arrest Muhanguzi Gerevazio on the 29th December 2023 on charges of threatening violence.
Rutaremwa Darius (now the deceased) was expected to give a statement to police on the 30th December 2023 as a witness against Muhanguzi Gervazio (his brother) but unfortunately, he was instead found murdered in the morning of the same day.
Police was informed by one Jackson Mwesigwa the area chairperson Nyamabare, scene was visited and documented, one suspect Nicholas Muhumuza the son to Muhanguzi Gerevazio was arrested and Gerivazio’s wife Topista Baryomunsi is on the run.
The body was taken to Rwakabengo health center III mortuary for postmortem examination as inquiries are at hand.
