He emphasized that entertainment centers and religious gatherings conducting overnight prayers should take note, beef up their security, and work in partnership with the territorial police commanders.

Maate advised the general public that when ushering in the New Year, all people are asked to refrain from burning Christmas trees and tires in public places and along the road. He added that anybody found doing so will face legal consequences.

He also reminded people that no security personnel are supposed to shoot as a way of celebrating, and those who drink and recklessly drive as a way of jubilation should not risk doing so because our deployments are still on the ground. Those people who run out of their houses and walk distances in groups excitedly chanting should avoid it because they can be invaded by wrong elements.

Homes should not be left unattended, and young ones should not be left alone at all times to avoid any eventuality against them by heartless elements.

Maate, however, encouraged parents to take up their roles and ensure their family’s safety. The police and other sister security forces are still on high alert to guarantee general security.
