KAMPALA– The Uganda Police force has come out and refuted the allegations that the vehicle of the Inspector General of Police-IGP was stolen.
A report in the government-owned New Vision newspaper revealed that the Inspector General of Police’s (IGP) vehicle was stolen, triggering a heated debate on social media. Netizens expressed astonishment at the audacity of the thieves, while others questioned the safety of citizens if the top cop’s car could be stolen.
However, in a statement, by Police Spokesperson Rusoke Kituuma has dismissed the report, stating that the information about the IGP’s stolen vehicle is entirely false, inaccurate, and exaggerated.
“The IGP’s official remains secure and has not been compromised.The vehicle involved in the reported theft is not the official car of the IGP.” Kituuma said.
He added: “what transpired was the theft of a police single cabin pickup, registered as UP00135 which operates as a service van, not even connected to the convoy of the IGP” Kituuma added.
Police said the stolen pickup was recovered and suspects were arrested.
“Following the incident, a comprehensive investigation was initiated, resulting in the recovery of the stolen vehicle and the arrest of a suspect.” Kituuma stated.
