NEWS– The Rukungiri District Woman Member of Parliament, Hon. Midius Natukunda Kaharata last week threw residents of Rwenshekye village in Rubanga Parish Buyanja Sub County Rukungiri district into endless happiness by donating to them a ten thousand capacity water tank.
The contribution is a continued effort by the District Woman Legislator Hon. Natukunda Midius Kaharata to help the residents resolve the water scarcity problem and promote sanitation in the district.
According to the legislator confided to this reporter that she decided to donate the tank to Rwenshekye residents since they are living in hilly area and have to travel great distances to find water in valleys. The storage tank, which was positioned at Rwesheshe market, is set to help the residents store water, essential for life.
Natukunda went on to claim that she is honoring her promise to fight for improved services for her people in the general elections in 2021.
At the handover ceremony, Buyanja Sub County Chairperson Agaba Emmy Rubondo noted that the government had promised to provide piped water from the Kahengye Water project, but this was in vain, adding that Rubanga Parish faces a challenge of water scarcity due to its hilly nature.
Agaba also commended the legislator for considering her people and providing them with a 10,000-liter water tank as a backup plan to help the locals survive.
Rubondo urged recipients to establish a committee to take care of the donated tank so that it can continue to exist for a long time with the assistance of the local council leadership.
The Rwenshekye cell chairperson Lillian Rugonde thanked Hon. Midius Kaharata for her kind donation and pledged to maintain the tank’s functionality. Rugonde detailed their exhausting experience of walking great distances to find water, particularly in valleys.
Residents who spoke with our reporter, especially women and children, commended their Woman member of Parliament, Hon. Natukunda, for considering them and said that they could now have water directly at their doorstep and that they would no longer need to trek long distances.
It should be remembered that the legislator had donated and installed similar tanks at Bwambara Health Center in Bwambara Sub County, Ndere Health Center in Ruhinda Sub County, Rwabarara and Bunono Villages in Nyarushanje Sub County, Kengooma village, Nyakitabire Parish in Ruhinda Sub County and reassured the community that more tanks will be placed in areas where water is scarce.
