Canon Ben Turamye

NEWS- Benson Turamye has been re- appointed as an executive director at the Public Procurement and Disposal of Public Assets Authority. Canon Benson Turamye hails from Ruhinda Sub county, Rujumbura constituency in Rukungiri district, south western Uganda.

According to the statement released by the Board of directors PPDA and signed by Julius. K.Ishungisa, the board chairman dated 12th, April 2024, Turamyes’s appointment takes effect from 24th April 2024.

The statement further explains that the board of directors of PPDA resolved at its meeting that was held on 11th April 2024 under the Board minute SBM 2/8 to grant Benson Turamye a contract of three years following his attainment of the retirement age of 60 years.

The board members asked the PPDA staff to accord him all the support he needs to deliver his mandate as the Executive director at Public Procurement and Disposal of Public Assets Authority.

Turamye was appointed Executive Director of Public Procurement and Disposal of Public Assets Authority (PPDA) by the PPDA board in 2019 to date after serving in an acting capacity for two years. He replaced Cornelia Sabiiti, who left the authority in March, 2017.

Turamye holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics and a Master’s Degree in Economic Policy and Planning from Makerere University and is a member of the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supplies (MCIPS).

At PPDA, he is currently at the forefront of pushing for the implementation of the upcoming Electronic Government Procurement (eGP), the promotion of the implementation of Reservation and Preference scheme to promote local content in public procurement and ensuring effective service delivery to the public.

The PPDA was established as a regulatory authority to ensure that the procurement process throughout the country is conducted with transparency, competitiveness, non-discrimination, fairness, and delivers value for money to citizens.

The people of Rukungiri   received this good news with a lot of excitement for their son’s re-appointment because he has worked hard to ensure that the procurement process is faster and more efficient so that service delivery is improved across the country

In Rukungiri district, Canon Benson Turamye previously served as a member of the Provincial Assembly, the highest body of Church of Uganda representing North Kigezi diocese and currently a member of the Synod and Chairs the North Kigezi construction committee that is spearheading the construction of new Emmanuel cathedral Kinyasano in Rukungiri district.

Furthermore, he is the Chairman of Abanya Ruhinda Ba Rujumbura Development Association, whose aim is to transform Ruhinda Sub County into a model sub county in areas of education and household income.

PPDA’s reappointment statement
