ASP Elly Maate the Kigezi regional Police spokesman

NEWS- The Police in Rukungiri district have detained Nicholas Ainembabazi, a security guard attached to Millennium Security Company for alleged murder of a 22 – year – old man.

The deceased has been identified as Kenneth Masanyu, a Munyankole resident of Kyobugombe cell, Kamahuri parish, Rugarama North sub-county, Ntungamo district.

ASP Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson, told the press that on 5th March 2024, at around 10pm at Rugoma C in Kebisoni Town Council Rukungiri district, the deceased was crossing a banana plantation belonging to Bitama Feredansi to his grandmother’s home,.

However, he got confused with the path and ended up in a banana plantation near the compound of Kazaire Julius at Rugoma cell, Southern Division, Kebisoni Town Council, where a security guard was on duty.

Maate adds that when the security guard Nicholas Ainembabazi ordered him to sit down, the deceased remained standing prompting the security guard to shoot directly at him, resulting in his instant death.

Maate confided to our reporter that police at Rukungiri Central Police Station were later informed by the area manager of Millennium Security Company, Eria Tumwesigye, who rushed to the crime scene, examined and documented evidence, recorded statements from eyewitnesses, and arrested the suspect for questioning.

 Maate confirmed that the body was taken to Rwakabengo HC III mortuary for postmortem examination as inquiries into the matter are ongoing. Maate, however, condemned the act and called upon armed individuals to always use guns non-violently.

The murder case was officially registered at Rukungiri police station under reference number CRB: 259/2024.
