NEWS- The Office of the Bishop of South Rwenzori Diocese has donated food items to the victims of mudslides and floods currently living in some temporarily established camps in Bukonzo County East with a call on them to observe sanitation and hygiene.
In May, Kasese district experienced heavy rains that caused mudslides and floods leading to destruction of people’s property including houses and crops while a section of people also lost their dear lives.
Yesterday a delegation from the Bishop’s House led by Rev. Betty Mbambu Mwero, the Mothers’ Union Coordinator thronged Mughanza Trading Centre and delivered 20kilograms of cassava flour, 5 kilograms of rice, 1 kilogram of sugar and a bar of soap and clothes to each of the families in the camps.
Rev. Mwero, who read the Bishop’s speech to the beneficiaries verbatim, described personal hygiene and sanitation as something key in the camps, adding that they help to curtail the spread of diseases especially those transmitted through sharing facilities like washrooms and basins among others.
She also stressed that the Office of the Bishop would continue lobbying for the affected persons as a sign of love to them.
Ven. Wilson Baluku Mulengya, the Archdeacon for Kyarumba Archdeaconry, applauded the Office of the Bishop for extending a helping hand to the affected persons and described the donation as timely.
Mr. Robert Masereka and Ms Jenifer Syalyambene, the Chairperson for Busingo Church of Uganda Camp, who hailed the Bishop’s Office for the donation, however, called upon religious leaders across the district to continue praying for them SO that they get resources to enable them to reconstruct houses.
Hon. Eliza Mbusa, the District Councilor representing Kyondo and Kisinga Sub-counties who represented the political wing called upon the people living in camps to wholeheartedly embrace the idea of taking their children to some nearby schools so that they acquire knowledge.
