Hippo with its Calf

NEWS- The Police in Kasese District have registered a fatal accident in Katwe Kabatoro Division that occured yesterday in Queen Elizabeth National Park along the Hamkungu Road – Kikorongo to Katunguru

The Rwenzori East Regional Police spokesman Nelson Timushime confirmed the accident and said that it involved motorcycle registration number UGA 359D ridden by Asaba Emmanuel who knocked down a Hippopotamus in Queen Elizabeth Conservation Area thereby causing his own death and the accident also left  one passenger Tomothy Tumusime nursing serious wounds.

According to responders, the rider was over speeding when he knocked the Hippo in the National Park and the Traffic Police from Katwe Kabatoro Division rushed at the scene and the victim was rushed to hospital for treatment and the deceased was transported to Kasese Health Centre III Moutuary for postmortem examination.

Tumushime has since called upon drivers who use the National Park to drive as per the Uganda Wild Life Guidelines of Speed Limit to avoid accidents or else they will be arrested and prosecuted in courts of law.
