NEWS- It was a sorrowful Tuesday, the 28th November 2023 when a tragedy hit as a pedestrian lost their life in a collision involving a bus with registration number UBF 966J, affiliated with the Star Link Company based in Kanungu District.
The unfortunate incident occurred at Kebisoni Town Council stage and the deceased has been identified as Aggrey Katomera, 32 year old resident of Kyanika Cell, Ndago Parish, Nyarushanje Sub County in Rukungiri District as he was in transit to Butabika Hospital for rehabilitation.
According to Kigezi Region Police spokesman ASP Elly Maate, Katomera and his caregivers were waiting at the bus terminal in Kebisoni Town Council, but when the bus arrived, he attempted to flee, colliding with its tyre and succumbing to a fatal head injury.
Despite the severity of the incident, Aggrey Katomera’s caregivers shared that he was already in a critical condition before the collision.
The bus transported the body to Kebisoni Health Center IV mortuary in Kebisoni Town Council, Rukungiri District, where it awaited a postmortem examination and necessary treatment by press time.
In another devastating incident that unfolded at 7:30AM on Tuesday morning, November 28, 2023, Kabahwezi John, a 47-year-old casual laborer from Kyamugasha village in Kyanamira sub county, Kabale District, lost his life tragically while engaged in a tree-cutting activity.
Kabahwezi, a Mukiga by tribe, was reportedly working alongside his colleague, Basigira Godfrey, and others when the fatal accident occurred. The group was cutting a tree in Kyamugasha cell when, in a tragic turn of events, the tree fell on Kabahwezi John, causing instantaneous and fatal injuries.
The incident was reported by Nyangabwoona Amos, a 63-year-old male and the chairperson of Lc1 Kyamugasha village.
Upon receiving the report, the Area Officer in Charge (OC) was promptly notified, who, in turn, informed the District CID officer in Kabale. Subsequently, a Homicide team led by Deputy Superintendent Mukama Hakim, the Deputy CID Officer, and the Scene of Crime Officer (SOCO) visited and examined the scene.
Statements from relevant witnesses were obtained, shedding light on the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident. It was revealed that the deceased’s colleagues were engaged in cutting the tree when it unexpectedly fell, resulting in the untimely death of Kabahwezi John.
Despite the standard procedure of conducting a postmortem examination, the family of the deceased declined the procedure, expressing contentment with attributing the death to a tragic accident.
