In amazing turn of events, the Bishop of North Kigezi Diocese Rt Rev Onesimus Asiimwe has appointed Senior Superintendent of Police Jackson Mucunguzi as a Pillar (Enyomyo) in the Church alongside many others.
The Pillars are appointed by the Bishop and are people who are committed to the development of the church and will be commissioned on 26th October 2025 at Emmanuel Cathedral Kinyasano in Rukungiri Municipality.
SSP Mucunguzi is currently a Senior Child and Family Protection Officer in the Department of Child and Family Protection, Uganda Police Force and is also a Male Positive Change Involvement Ambassador, actively engaged in joint efforts to combat Gender-Based Violence (GBV) within the Uganda Police Force and in communities across the country.
SSP Mucunguzi who hails from Kebisoni Town Council has held several key leadership positions, over the 15 years of service in the Uganda Police.
Mucunguzi has held key leadership positions in the Uganda Police that include Officer in Charge (OC), District Police Commander (DPC), Chief Security Officer at Makerere University, and Senior Curriculum and Doctrine Development Officer in the training wing of the Uganda Police Force.
SSP Jackson Mucunguzi is currently a PhD Scholar at Uganda Management Institute (UMI), where his research is focused on “The Impact of Family Stability on Community Policing Strategies in Uganda.” His scholarly work bridges the worlds of public administration, policing and family welfare.
He is known in the community and among peers as an agent of happy families, and is deeply involved in community development initiatives such as Kebisoni Tumanyane Group, Buyanja My Roots all in Rukungiri District and various North Kigezi Church of Uganda circles.
Together with his wife, they are a model couple — inspiring families to nurture love, unity, and resilience regardless of social or professional status.
By appointing Mucunguzi as a Pillar of the Diocese, Bishop Asiimwe recognized his spiritual devotion and community impact.
This comes in addition to his current roles as Representative of Kakinga Archdeaconry (Kebisoni) on the Kampala Residents Chapter headed by the Commissioner General of Prisons Dr Canon Johnson Byabasheija and being Head of Security for the North Kigezi Diocese Kampala Chapter.
A man of faith, family, and service, SSP Mucunguzi continues to live out his calling focused on building safer communities and stronger families for a better Uganda.
On learning about the appointment, SSP Mucunguzi expressed a heartfelt appreciation to Bishop Onesimus Asiimwe (Uncle O), for appointing him as a Pillar in the North Kigezi Diocese where his spiritual life started especially at St.l John Rumbugu Church of Uganda Kakinga Archideconary in Kebisoni Town Council in Rukungiri District.
“When I became a double orphan at a young age, the church became my parent and my place of hope to this very day,” SSP Mucunguzi said.
According to the Doctrine and Canons of the Church of Uganda, its rare for one at his age to be appointed a Pillar of the Church, but the Word of God says in Philippians 1:6 (NIV): “He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”
“I know the Lord who keeps reminding me of my yesterday calls me to be intentional and consistent today while in public administration (Police Uniform)and as an individual, so that my tomorrow may hold even greater blessings for me and my dear family,” He said.
SSP Mucunguzi said that the appointment is another ‘School of Life’ achievement, echoing the wisdom of psychologist Alain de Botton and his co-authors.
“I have read every word of this appointment letter more so being in my African traditional good language (Runyankore/Rukiga), and it continues to teach me to re-examine both my public and private lifestyle choices, for they directly affect the spiritual bloodstream of the Church, indeed, as Scripture says, whoever puts on flesh is a sinner so I will keep revising myself daily,” Mucunguzi emphasized.
Mucunguzi also thanked the Chairperson North Kigezi Diocese, Kampala Chapter Canon Dr Johnson Byabasheija and the entire Executive Committee, for finding it wise to appoint him to this noble role of promoting a pro-people gospel ministry.
