Gun stolen in Rukungiri after security guard’s severe assault

NEWS- The Police in Rukungiri district are investigating circumstances under which a 59 year Erigio Mugyenyi, a security guard of Millennium security company Ltd was attacked, hit and injured and his gun stolen by unknown assailant(s).

ASP Elly Maate the Kigezi Region Police spokesman told the press that that on 19^th January 2024 at about 1am, while the victim was guarding at Bwangu Investment Mukwano Depot within Rukungiri municipality, was attacked and hit on the head several times using a big stone and later stole his pump action gun (UG PSO 07318- 03821) with one round of ammunition.

The guard lost consciousness and moved aimlessly but his colleague one Besima Pancrasio) who was guarding at a nearby beat saw him staggering on the road with his shirt full of blood stains.

Maate adds that Besima asked Mugyenyi of what had happened and in his response Eligio told him that he had been assaulted and when he asked about the whereabouts of the gun, he told him he had left it covered with a box where he was resting. 

Besima took Eligio to Case Clinic for 1^st aid and later rushed to secure his colleague’s gun but unfortunately did not find it. He then informed their supervisor Eria Tumwesigye who in kturn reported the matter at CPS Rukungiri for further management. 

The scene was visited and carefully documented, relevant statements recorded including the one of Eligio who was admitted and handcuffed at Case Clinic and the exhibit of a big stone with blood stains, a head dress, a black back bag were recovered. 

According to Maate, it’s has been established through Eligio’s statement, that while on his beat, someone got him and introduced himself as a staff of Millennium Security Company Ltd working in Ishaka Bushenyi, requested to have a night therein, and when Eligio rested abit, woke up when he was hit and hence suspecting that it’s the said person who could have attacked him, and stole the said gun.

Maate confided to the press that inquiries continue as well as efforts to recover the said stolen gun are being made as a case of theft of a gun is already recorded at Rukungiri CPS under reference number SD 03/19/01/2024.
