NEWS- Traders along Ntungamo-Mbarara road are concerned by authorities in Rubaare town council removing their sign posts directing heavy vehicles not to park during the day in front of their shops claiming that the stationed vehicles barricade their clients from buying, and loading their goods.
Michael Mukumadeembe who operates a furniture workshop in Rubaare town council is dismayed over the authorities removing his post signs that he usually erect during the day in front of his workshop directing heavy trucks not to stop there.
“I used to put my post signs during the day for my business to operate successfully and remove them at 6:00pm to pave way for heavy trucks to have parking at night, but I wonder how the council would come and remove them” he said.
Mukumadeembe noted that he deals with goods that need space for parking where some of his clients come with vehicles and motorcycles to load the bought commodities. He is dealing in all furniture accessories.
He also lamented that he owns two temporary structures which he pays the council per month plus revenue tax. He then wants the council to relocate all people dealing in furniture accessories to one place where their business cannot be disturbed if they want heavy trucks to keep parking during the day.
Ms Allan Morious who operates a general merchandise shop also said that her clients are always barricaded by heavy trucks during the day; therefore going to other shops nearby that is not closed by heavy trucks. The heavy trucks barricade her from loading and unloading commodities.
The chairperson for Rubaare business community Fred Muhinda said that they are regulated by the council and the council also need them, he however said that it is still a challenge to find those heavy trucks parking during the day yet the tenderer contracted for night parking. He added that they will contact the council to harmonize the issue.
The mayor Rubaare town council Benson Kansiime punctures on those traders who erect the sign posts without authorization by the council that it is illicitly done. “I think that to do that they would have needed permission first from the council” he added.
Kansiime also noted that they will organize the meeting with the business community and the tenderer for night parking to look for the solution for those vehicles that stay stationed in front of shops and many other business entities during the day, “But no one is entitled to erect the sign post with the council consent” he said.
