Accident scene

The Police in Kanungu District have registered a hit and run road accident where one person died on the spot and another was killed as he loaded goods on his motorcycle.

Kigezi Regional Police Spokesman Elly Maate has confirmed the accidents saying that the first took place at Ibambiro junction a long Ishasha –  Rukungiri road in Kanungu District, where motor vehicle Regional number UAW 240Z T white in colour knocked the rider of motorcycle registration number UFP 109R ridden by 25 year old Tumukunde Elian a resident of Rwerere in Kihihi Sub-county Kanungu District who is died on the spot.

Maate explained that it is alleged that the rider of motorcycle registration number no UFP 109R was coming from Kibimbiri heading to Kihihi – Kanungu road and as he was crossing the junction of Ibambiro was knocked by speeding, the motor vehicle which was coming from Ishasha side heading to Rukungiri knocked him and it’s driver is still at large.

Maate explained that the scene was visited, processed and documented, the 

body was taken to Kihihi Health Center IV Mortuary for post mortem examination and the  Motorcycle is parked at Kihihi Police Station pending Inspector of Vehicles inspection, while the hunt for the driver and his vehicle is ongoing.

Maate said that preliminary investigations indicate that the cause of the accident was reckless driving by the driver of the same motor vehicle.

Meanwhile in the same development, tje Police in Kanungu has registered a fatal accident that took place in the middle of Kanungu Town Council along Kanungu – Rukungiri road.

Maate said that the accident involved motor vehicle registration number UAV 722W and motorcycle registration number UFR 730W which left 39 year old Turinawe Nestor a resident of Rugoma cell in Eastern Ward of Kanungu Town Council in Kanungu District dead.

It’s alleged that the driver of motor vehicle registration number UAV 722W was coming from Rukungiri old road heading to Kanungu Town, lost control and went off the road knocked a motorcyclist who was loading boxes of school chalk on motorcycle reg no UFR 730W and pushed him up to the building and the rider died on spot.

Maate said that the scene of the accident was visited by Kanungu District Police Commander Azira Grace and team, the scene processed and documented, body was taken to Kanungu Health Center IV Mortuary for postmortem examination.

The driver of the car who was not immediately identified is still at large and primary cause of the accident was reckless driving by the driver.
