NEWS- Two people died on Monday, December 23rd 2024 at approximately 7:15 PM in an accident that occurred at Mizimera, Kihiihi Town Council, along Kihiihi-Kanungu Road.
The accident according to Kigezi regional Police Spokesman ASP Elly Maate involved two vehicles: a blue Mitsubishi Canter (UBN 507J), driven by an unknown individual, and a red Bajaj Boxer motorcycle (UGF 470U) ridden by 45-year-old Byabasheija Christopher.
Maate told the press that the collision resulted in deaths of two individuals. Byabasheija, a resident of Rutare Cell in Karangara Parish, Kayonza Sub-County, Kanungu District, died at the scene, while his passenger, 39-year-old Tusiime Kenneth, from Nyakabingo Cell in Karangara Parish, succumbed to injuries shortly after the incident.
The motorcyclist is believed to have rammed into a stationary vehicle from behind, leading to the fatal crash. A third individual, a male adult, was injured and is receiving medical attention.
Maate told www.informer.co.ug reporter that the police were promptly alerted and visited the scene of the accident, bodies of the victims were transported to Kihiihi Health Centre IV Mortuary as both the Mitsubishi Canter and the motorcycle were towed to Kihiihi Police Station pending IOV inspection.
Preliminary investigations suggest that reckless riding by the motorcyclist was the primary cause of the accident.
