The United Nations (UN) has donated an assortment of computers and printers to Air Force Secondary School as part of its broader initiative to promote digital inclusion in schools across Uganda.
The contribution is aimed at equipping learners with essential technological tools to help bridge the digital divide among children.
While receiving the donation, the Director Human Resource Management Air Force, Brig Gen Richard Rubongoya, on behalf of the Chief of Staff Air Force, emphasized that if properly utilized, the equipment would significantly enhance the education of students by providing them with skills relevant to today’s digital society.
“The world is digital, and we have to embrace it,” Brig Gen Rubongoya said. He urged students and teachers to take good care of the equipment to ensure it serves future learners.
The Director of Education, Sports and Culture in the Air Force, Col Robert Ngabirano appreciated the UN’s support and noted that the donation would boost digital literacy and prepare students with the knowledge and competencies needed to succeed in the job market.
While speaking at the same event, Maj Nathan Mpairwe highlighted the school’s diverse student population, which includes both children of military personnel and civilians, as a key reason for more support in the future.
Present at the event were the Director of the United Nations Regional Service Centre, Entebbe, Pailin Djomo Metanhi, the Chief of United Nations Field Regional Technological Services Entebbe Emmanuel Ngor, the Programme Manager for UN C4ISR Academy for Operations at UN Regional Service Centre Entebbe Ms Florence Keter and other officials from UN Regional Service Centre.
