NEWS– The UPDF Spokesman Brig Gen Felix Kulayigye has confirmed the death of the Deputy Commander of the UPDF AirForce Brigadier General Stephen Kiggundu.
According to a statement issued by Brg Gen Felix Kulaigye on Sunday evening, the top Army General died at his residence in Entebbe, but lamented that he was well all day until the evening when he fell and died instantly in a bathroom.
Brig Gen Kulayigye said that the UPDF fraternity and Uganda People’s Defense Air Force will miss Brigadier General Kiggundu because he has gone at the time when his services were most needed to continue strengthening the Air Force capabilities.
Brig Gen Kulayigye said that the late Kiggundu, previously served as the commander of the Soroti Air Force wing, was promoted to the rank of Brigadier General and appointed Deputy Chief of the UPDF Airforce in November 2022 replacing Lt Gen Charles Lutaaya who earlier replaced Maj Gen Charles Okidi who was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant General as the Airforce Commander.
The late Kiggundu and his boss Gen Okidi took over at the Defence Airforce at a time the national defence was losing resources, including experienced soldiers in crash accidents which has since reduced.
