A new era is emerging with the youth picking interest in mainstream politics without waiting for tomorrow as it is normally said and it’s from this background that in Rukungiri District, a youth, Rukundo Paul Rwabihurwa has endured all odds and emerged victorious as Rukungiri District NRM Secretary General.
Rukundo who hails from Nyeibingo Parish in Kebisoni Sub-county ganeared 323 votes, defeated Henry Niwagaba from Bikurungu Town Council who got 56 votes.
The Rukungiri NRM Delegates conference earlier elected Minister of Security Gen Jim Katugugu Muhwezi as chairman and also elected Ambrose Kibuuka from Bwambara Sub-county as Vice Chairperson unopposed while Fred Kabwira was elected the Publicity Secretary after getting 215 votes defeating Edwin Kutesa Kaziriri who got 95 votes and Brian Tumukunde who got 17 votes.
The position of Secretary for Finance was taken by Mrs Jolly Masheija who got 207 votes defeating Niwabiine Andrew who got 23 votes.
The winning of Rukundo is seen as a breakthrough by the youth to take on the leadership mantal on the NRM party and this was even reflected in the lower grassroot elections where most Sub-county and Town Councils Mainstream positions were won by youth.
In Kanungu district the NRM Delegates conference elected Caleb Tumwesimire Kipande as the Chairperson after defeating Godfrey Tumwebaze Karabenda and Charles Asiimwe Bamuhata while the Vice Chairperson was former Woman Member of Parliament Hon Elizabeth Karungi and the Secretary General is Frank Byaruhanga, Publicity Secretary is Godfrey Akampurira and the Secretary for Finance is Ms Rehema Biryomumeisho.

In Kisoro District Muzei Philemon Mateke retained his position of Chairperson, in Rubanda District Minister of State for Finance in charge of General Duties Hon Henry Musasizi Aliganyira was elected chairman, while in Kabale District Minister of State for Trade David Bahati retained his position as chairman and in Rukiga Bruce Kyerere emerged the winner as Chairperson.
