NEWS- A total of 287 graduates are on the verge of receiving their well-deserved certificates after successfully completing their studies at Rugarama School of Nursing and Midwifery and to have a fundraising campaign to secure the necessary funds to complete a crucial school building.
Asiimwe Darius, the Academic Registrar of Rugarama School of Nursing and Midwifery, during a press conference held at the school ground in Rugarama, Northern division of Kabale Municipality said that the purpose of this gathering was to unveil the upcoming 4th graduation ceremony.
The graduation ceremony is scheduled to be held at St. Peter’s Cathedral grounds in Rugarama on Friday, November 3rd, 2023.
Asiimwe narrated those statistics regarding the graduating class of the 287 graduates, 185 are Nurses, 102 are Midwives, with a balanced distribution of 66 male and 221 female graduates compared to the last graduation, which witnessed 221 graduates, including 120 Nurses, 101 Midwives, 18 male graduates, and 203 female graduates
He said that the institution’s impressive growth since its inception. The school’s journey began in 2013 with a mere 23 students with two courses on offer. Today, it boasts an enrollment of 350 students. Of particular significance, the school has seen a substantial increase in male student enrolment, surging from 8% in 2021 to an impressive 30% in 2023.
He emphasized a significant hurdle the school currently faces: a shortage of suitable buildings to accommodate a higher student population. He stressed that the institution has the potential to educate even more students but is limited by inadequate infrastructure.
Darius called upon everyone to attend the graduation ceremony and contribute to the school’s fundraising efforts. The funds raised will play a pivotal role in completing the ongoing construction of a much-needed school building.
He revealed that the school will also celebrate its 10th anniversary on the same day. This milestone reflects a decade of dedicated service in nurturing the next generation of nurses and midwives.

Rugarama School of Nursing and Midwifery was founded by the Diocese of Kigezi and commenced operations in November 2013. The school operates under the auspices of the Ugandan government through the Ministry of Education and Sports (BTVET Department) and the Ministry of Health (Uganda Nurse and Midwives Council- UNMC)
