MBARARA- The Uganda Police force in Mbarara City has arrested four of their fellows over unprofessional conduct in arresting an old woman over land conflict.
Those in detention according to Police spokesman CP Kituma Rusooke are ASP Andrew Betunga, Detective Constable Darious Aharizira, Detective Constable Hope Nsasirwe and Detective Constable Loyce Kiboneka.
These were filmed hurling an old woman in mud on allegations of resisting arrest. The lady who was filmed being hurled in the mud is Victoria Kabatoraine Ariau a resident from Lubiri cell in Mbarara City who is currently being held at CPS Mbarara.
It is further alleged that her daughter’s phone has also been confiscated by police officers because she dared to record a viral video on social media.
Earlier in the day, the Police in Mbarara had alleged that the old woman trespassed on the land for which she has letters of administration and for which a legal fight (estate issues) has been ongoing for the better part of ten years. The contested land is opposite the Coca-Cola plant in Mbarara City.
“Uganda Police Force condemns the method of arrest depicted in this video. It contradicts our professional standards@ UPF said in a statement.
All the four have since been arrested and are currently detained in Mbarara according to the statement on Police’s X. The statement stresses that further updates regarding the progress of the force’s disciplinary action will be provided later.
