The Vice President Major Jessica Alupo Epel has this week officiated at the 4th annual National Labour Convention and Expo 2026 where she made it categorically clear that the Government of Uganda is set to implement strategies to reduce unemployment.
The Convention is being held under the theme “Unlocking the Potential of Uganda’s Youth Labour Force: Advancing Productivity and Expanding Opportunities for Decent Work,”
The 4th Annual National Labour Convention and Expo 2026, which started today April 15th and ends on tomorrow 16th April at the Kampala Serena Hotel forms part of activities leading-up to International Labour Day.
Major Alupo highlighted the critical role of young Ugandans under 30, who make up 75% of the country’s population, in driving economic growth and development.
The Convention has attracted key stakeholders to advance dialogue on labour, productivity and national development.
While speaking at the Chief Executive Officer of the Federation of Uganda Employers, Douglas Opio, observed that transition of youth from school to work is still extremely problematic.
The Commissioner Labour, Industrial Relations and Productivity in the Ministry of Labour, Alex Asiimwe, said that the Convention is bringing together leaders and stakeholders to unlock the potential of Uganda’s youth labour force and advancing opportunities for decent work for all.
