KAMPALA- Several Journalists in Kampala have been turned away from accessing the Criminal Investigations Directorate-CID by a heavy deployment outside headquarters.
A heavy security deployment composed of counter terrorism personnel and plainclothes detectives, has sealed off Kibuli Road, restricting access to Nsambya.
Boda-boda riders and taxi drivers are being instructed not to stop in the area, while journalists and bystanders are being redirected to gather near the Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) junction.
The heavy security deployment is in anticipation of the three former top Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) officials appearing for questioning at CID Headquarters. These officials, including Dorothy Kisaka, David Luyimbazi, and Daniel Okello, are expected to face questioning related to the catastrophic Kiteezi incident, which led to President Museveni calling for a thorough probe into potential criminal negligence.
On Monday the Police Spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke said the probing will be in line with the directives of President Museveni to investigate the irregularities that were unearthed by the IGG’S report in the Kiteezi disaster that left at least 30 lives lost in August this year.
The sacked officials are expected to shed light on their roles in the alleged irregularities in contract awarding, embezzlement of funds and enforcing environmental regulations during their leadership.
“As you’re aware the President directed us to also investigate matters of Kiteezi, but we had to wait for the IGG’s office to conclude their side, and then we can also start our job. They will appear on Wednesday.”
The summoning of the former KCCA officials comes hot on the heels of their dismissal by President Yoweri Museveni, following an IGG’s report that uncovered irregularities in the management of the landfill.
