Tayebwa Otteran, son of Hon. Odo Tayebwa who recently defected from FDC to NRM

NEWS- Days after his appointment as Commissioner for Cooperatives, the new National Resistance Movement convert Odo Tayebwa’s son Tayebwa Otteran has been appointed Deputy RDC of Bugiri District.

It should be remembered that early this month, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni appointed Odo Tayebwa, the former legislator for Ishaka Municipality, as the commissioner for cooperatives in the Ministry of Trade, Industries, and Cooperatives.

Odo, a renowned ex-supporter of the Opposition Forum for Democratic Change party, represented Ishaka Municipality in the 9th Parliament and recently defected to the ruling NRM after serving the opposition for more than 20 years.

This was during the thanksgiving of Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa’s father in Mitooma District.

Odo’s crossing shows the uncertain future surrounding the opposition parties and politics in Uganda, as well as the hope people still have in the NRM headed by President Museveni. His immediate appointment as a commissioner is a sign of Museveni’s tolerance and good leadership.

However, Otteran’s appointment has sparked concern amongst the longtime National Resistance Movement especially with appointments being accorded to those that freshly cross to the party from the opposition.

Deus Mugarura, an NRM cadre who lost the 2021 Rukungiri Municipality Parliamentary seat has come out to show

“Almost the same month the son has been appointed as DRDC here the son of the NRM die hard peasant and myself an NRM have been unemployed for 4 years since 2021 after being promised a job and dumped” said Mugarura!

He adds that “I have written several letters to H.E the party chairman but they end up in dustbin! The only crime I did was to support NRM candidate to win opposition strong hold Rukungiri municipality, used and dumped!”.
