Buganda Road court

KAMPALA- A Tanzanian National has been arraigned before Buganda Road Magistrates and remanded to Luzira prison on charges of Terrorism.

Girly Girmaley Batange also known as Magufuli, a resident of Juba South Sudan appeared before Chief Magistrate Ronald Kayizzi who did not allow him to say anything on a capital offence which attracts a maximum penalty of death upon conviction.

Magufuli is  jointly charged with  Sulaiman Nsubuga also known as Ibrahim Nkata also known as Mzee Lweza a resident of Butote village Masafu Sub county in Busia District who has been in prison on other charges related to illegal possession of a firearm.

He is also charged alongside Swalleh Abubaker aka Mupeeta Isaac aka Dog City aka Fujo Boxer aka Kivuruge Tom who was already sent to Luzira Prison sometime back by the same court also on similar charges following his extradition from Zambia.

Magufuli is facing charges of rendering support to a terrorist organization, terrorism financing and belonging or professing to belong to a terrorist organization.

The Prosecution states that the accused persons and others still at large between 2018 and April 2024, in diverse areas of Uganda, Democratic Republic of Congo, Tanzania, Zambia and South Africa directly mobilized funds  and procured digital watches, power banks , other essential supplies , recruiter and transferred recruits to allied Democratic Forces -ADF in Eastern DRC , knowing or having reason to believe that such support will be used in full or in part by the ADF terrorist organization.

The trio also accused of having engaged themselves in the said crimes well knowing that their support will be used for purposes of and or instigation of acts of terrorism.

Magufuli who speaks kiswahili sought for pardon from the Chief Magistrate but was told that he will ask the trial Judge in the High Court as he doesn’t have jurisdiction on his case.

He has been directed to return to court on September 20th, 2024 for mention of the case.
