The Police in Kanungu District are investigating circumstances surrounding the act of arson where property worth millions of shillings were destroyed.
Kigezi Regional Police Spokesman Elly Maate told journalists that the incident took place at at Matanda II village in Kabuga Parish in Kihihi Sub-county in Kanungu district, where Ndamanya Charles Iddi was attacked by unknown assailants who first smashed his front window and door glasses, accessed the bedroom window, smashed glasses and set the house ablaze.
It is however reported that, the Ndamanya and his wife managed to get out of the bed and raised an alarm and residents responded and put out the fire and no injury was registered.
According to the victim who is an agent of Hon James Ruggi Kaberuka, he received a phone call, calling him to meet voters that were very many at the home of Nankunda which he declined, saying that it was late and a few hours later, that’s when he was attacked and his house set on fire.
The Police were informed, the scene was visited, processed and documented and inquiries have commenced to establish those involved and their likely motive.
