President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has thanked his Egyptian Counterpart His Excellency Abdel Fattah El-Sisi for inviting him to engage in a productive dialogue.
In a massage he shared on social media President Museveni pointed out that it has been a long time since he last visited Egypt and said that Uganda and the Great Lakes region have been historically linked to Egypt through the Nile River.
President who led a high powered delegation to Egypt said that Uganda’s political relationship with Egypt began to strengthen after 1952, when His Excellency Nasser assumed leadership in Egypt.
During the discussions, the two leaders addressed the future of the Nile saying that they must approach its future with a broad perspective because sometimes, the challenge lies in the approach.
President Museveni said that rather than focusing solely on historical rights, the two countries should now consider the global needs of all Nile Basin countries and prosperity for all, access to electricity for all, irrigation for all, and clean drinking water for all.
He made it categorically clear that by including these objectives in the new framework, the two countries can employ the most scientific and fair methods to achieve them.
