NEWS– Ninsiima Evelyn Kikafunda the founder and president of Green Environment Programme on Thursday December 7th , 2023 equipped FREMMA Community Connect, a women group located in Hamuhambo town council, Rubanda district with skills of making pads to solve the problem of school dropouts among girls.
Speaking to our reporter, the beneficiaries of this program from Kagarama ward, Hamuhambo town council in Rubanda district said that the washable pads are going to reduce their monthly expenses.
They added that most of the time they have been resorting to Peace Cross because of the economic crisis.
Nowamani Rebecca, a resident of Kagarama Hamurambi cell in Kagarama ward said that the disposable pads were expensive to use adding that most of the girls who were unable to purchase the sanitary pads have been missing school.
They applauded the GEP president for trying to control the rate of school drop outs of a Girl child in Rubanda through introducing cheap and reliable handmade pads.
Emily Mbabazi a trainer in these handmade pads said that they resorted to handmade pads after realizing a serious need and the economic hardship which has been forcing girls out of school.
She added that every month a woman is going to save over 3000 shillings she has been spending on pads
Mrs Francine Turyazayo the political assistant of Ninsiima Evelyn Kikafunda said most of the girls have been dropping out from school due to lack of pads to use during their menstrual periods.
She added that handmade pads are relatively cheap, easy and washable compared to those ones they have been buying in shops.
She also said that Young women been finding it challenging to purchase the pads despite of this economic crisis.
The GEP president also honored heirloom seeds she had pledged to FREMMA Community Connect Group as one way of fighting famine in the District.
