KASESE– The Uganda National Drug Authority has revealed that most people who have been arrested over the illegal sale and counterfeiting of drugs are Bakonzo from the districts of Kasese, Ntoroko, Bundibugyo and Kyenjojo.
Dr. Jeane Muhindo Mukeka, the Director Veterinary Services at the Uganda National Authority revealed the development while addressing the Obusinga Bwa Rwenzururu Cabinet Ministers during a meeting in which the body was sensitizing them about the Memorandum of Understanding that is yet to be signed between the two entities.
Dr. Muhindo explained that to solve the challenge, Obusinga Bwa Rwenzururu should sensitize her subjects against the vice that is slowly tarnishing the image of the Bakonzo.
She used the same platform to encourage the Obusinga Bwa Rwenzururu to join hands with the political leaders in fight against the consumption of sanga meat that she described as poisonous.
Dr. Yusuf Kibaya, the Kasese District Veterinary Officer, told the drugs regulatory body that the fight against the sale and consumption of sanga meat was being challenged by the local political leaders.
This, according to him makes it hard for the technical wing to implement the District Council resolution banning the sale and consumption of the condemned meat across the district.
