NEWS– The bid by the FDC Katonga faction to have a new political party registered seems to have hit a dead rock as the Electoral Commission has rejected their request.
The Electoral Commission EC has declined the request ciiting potential public confusion over the proposed name “People’s Front for Freedom”, and its symbols due to their similarity with “People Power Front “.
This was in a formal response issued to the FDC Katonga faction by the Electoral commission following their request to register a new political vehicle that was filed on 27th August, 2024 as they sought to reserve the party’s name, colors, symbol, and slogan.
However in their response, the Electoral Commission has raised concerns over several aspects of the application, guiding the PFF leadership on how to proceed.
According to the EC Secretary of the Mulekwah Russell Jacques Leonard, the application doesn’t meet specific legal requirements under the Political Parties and Organizations Act, 2005.
The Act mandates that political parties must provide a comprehensive description of their symbols and colors.
The Commission referred to Section 8 of the Political Parties and Organizations Act, which prohibits the use of any name, color, or initials that are already being utilized by a registered political party or organization.
In light of these concerns, the Electoral Commission has advised the leadership of the PFF to comply with the stipulated regulations if they wish to proceed with their registration.
