The Incumbent Ntungamo Municipality Member of Parliament Ntungamo Hon.Yona Musinguzi has once again secured the National Resistance Movement NRM flag following a re-election held today on September, 8th.2025.

The re-election was ordered by the NRM Electoral Commission after four aspirants, Philip Ankwasa Nkwasibwe, Michael Katureebe, Edward Beyendeza and Eric Kacafu Nuwagira petitioned the NRM Electoral Tribunal citing irregularities, vote rigging and violence in the July 17th 2025 primaries. 

Even when the re election was ordered, the petitioners accused the tribunal of excluding six villages in what they termed as an unfair and selective process favoring the incumbent.

Despite their protests, the tribunal allowed a re- run to ensure fairness at the end of the exercise.and Hon Musinguzi emerged victorious polling 5,740 votes (71%) securing the NRM ticket to defend his seat in 2026 general elections.

His closet challenger, Philip garnered 1,081 votes(13%) followed by Michael Katureebe with 791 votes(10%), Edward Beyendeza with 423 votes(5%), and Eric Kacafu Nuwagira who managed 79 votes(1%).

The NRM Electoral Commission Returning Officer in Ntungamo Municipality Ms Miria Mirembe  declared Hon Musinguzi the duly elected flag bearer.

Meanwhile in Rubabo County in  Rukungiri District, the NRM primaries were today concluded Mathias Mwesigwa Rwabugumi emerged the winner to take on the NRM in the 2026 general elections.

 According to Elias Katureebe,the NRM Elections Officer for Rukungiri District, Elias Katureebe, Mwesigwa Rwabugumi polled 10,736 votes (23.9%), narrowing beating Alex Rugonde who secured 10,603 votes (23.6%).

Other contestants who included David Ndindirize Tushabomwe with 9,413 votes (21.0%), Ms Doreen Busingye 7714 (17.2%), Ernest Katara Ngabirano with 4,421 votes(9.8%), Ms Doreen Twebaze with 1,906 votes(4.2%), and Justus Ibrahim Twinomujuni with 104 votes(0.2%).

The hotly contested races in both Ntungamo Municipality and Rubabo County highlight growing internal competition within the ruling party as it prepares for the 2026 general elections.
