NEWS– Diocese of Muhabura this week donated food items and clothes to Mikyingo Batwa community in Kisoro Municipality ahead of Christmas day celebrations. The Batwa received the items in a function held at St Andrew’s Cathedral Seseme.
The food items donated include; 300kgs of maize flour, 200kgs of rice and 200kgs of beans. 22 children also received clothes from Muhabura diocese during the function. Mikyingo Batwa community is composed of 60 households with a population of 173 people.
According to Nyiramaliza Winfred, the Mikyingo Batwa community coordinator, they thought of doing something extraordinary for the Batwa so as they can as well enjoy the birth of Jesus Christ.
She asked Batwa members to desist from alcoholism, fighting and other vices that may affect their lives. She advised them to ensure that they attend church services on Christmas day together as family members.
Muhabura diocesan secretary Rev. Stephen Ruzaza thanked bishop Rt Rev. Godfrey Mbitse for lobbying the items from well-wishers of Australia. He said that the well-wishers of Global development Australia have continued to support Batwa of Mikyingo in terms of health, education and in other aspects.
He revealed that the diocese of Muhabura has plans of introducing scholarships to Batwa members who would wish to study vocational skills and Muhabura VTC.
Rev. Stephen Ruzaza wished them merry Christmas and happy new year and advised them to enjoy the festival season responsibly.
Speaking on behalf of Mikyingo Batwa community, Nashaba Mable thanked leadership of Muhabura diocese for the love and support they keep rendering to Batwa community.
