The Police in Rukungiri District are investigating circumstances under which Rukungiri Inn Hotel, part of the bar section was set a blaze.
Kigezi Regional Police Spokesman Elly Maate told journalists that the fire occured yesterday morning when Mwesigye Job a security guard while at his beat at Rukungiri Inn Hotel, saw smoke coming out from the rare side of the bar which is grass thatched shelter.
Mwesigye immediately notified the Receptionist Owomugisha Unity who in turn informed the Hotel Manager Patience Kobusingye who reported the same at Rukungiri Police Station, that quickly responded with a team that included Fire and Rescue Brigade plus the Police dog.
Maate said that the Police managed to put out the fire before it caused a large impact on the shelter, fortunately no one was injured in the incident and the search with the Police dog could not yield results since the scene was already tampered with.
Maste explained that the hotel is neighboring a government Forest reserve just behind the Rukungiri Police Barracks and the unidentified person who is believed to have set the fire is suspected to have emerged from the government forest as observed from the suspected foot marks from the crime scene to the forest.
Maate said that investigations are ongoing to establish the exact cause of the fire and urged anyone who knows the perpetrators of the genius crime to cooperate with the Police so that they can be arrested and charged accordingly.
