Kigezi Region Police PRO ASP Elly Maate

The Police in Kabale District are hunting for suspects who allegedly murdered one person and critically injured another one.

Kigezi Regional Police Spokesman Elly Maate has confirmed the incident and identified the deceased as 40 year old Natamba Stephen, a local guard (askari) at Albertine Hotel located in Kabale Municipality and the injured is 59 year old Kanyoro Loyce, a business woman and a resident of Makanga Cell, in the Kabale Municipality and the mother of the reporter, Kanyoro Rodgers.

Maate told journalists this morning that it is alleged that the incident took place in the early morning hours at Makanga Cell in Butobere Ward, Central Division, Kabale Municipality in Kabale Municipality when Ms Kanyoro Loyce was attacked at her home by unknown three men armed with pangas.

The unidentified men assaulted and killed the Askari and immediately thereafter, cut several times and injured Ms Kanyoro with pangas and also robbed her of a mobile phone, a Samsung TV screen and other assorted household property.  

It is reported that after their departure, Ms Kanyoro managed to called her son Kanyoro Rogers who stays at Albertine Hotel Kabale within the same premises and he rushed to find out what has happened and on arrival, he found the askari in critical condition and he rushed him to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

The injured Ms Kanyoro Loyce was also found seriously bleeding with multiple injuries and she was rushed to Rugarama Hospital for medical attention where she is admitted and now receiving treatment.

Maate explained that the Police visited the scene of crime, processed and documented it and the body of the deceased was retrieved from Kabale Regional Referral Hospital to the Mortuary for postmortem.

Maate said that no arrests have been made but investigations are ongoing and appealed to the general public or anyone with information that can lead the Police to those involved to volunteer it so that they are arrested and charged accordingly.
