The Police in Rubanda District have arrested four suspected criminals allegedly for being behind the thefts, and robberies on the trucks in transit along the Kabale – Kisoro highway.
Kigezi Regional Police Spokesman Elly Maate told journalists today morning that the arrests was carried out during an intelligence-led joint operation conducted by the Police and UPDF last night led by the Rubanda District Police Commander Tumwebaze JB, in line with the regional plan to wipe out thuggery from the entire Kigezi Area.
Maate identified the suspects as 31 year old Turyamureba Kenneth, Muhwezi Titus aged 26, 32 year old Tayebwa John and and a female Twakire Agnes aged 18 years old.
Maate explained that the operation was specifically conducted in Hamurwa Areas where the Police recovered substantial amounts of marijuana which the suspects smoke before engaging in criminality along the highway.
Maate said that the suspects are currently being detained at Rubanda Central Police Station and will be produced before Courts of Law to answer charges of highway robbery accordingly upon the completion of inquiries.
