NEWS- President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has this evening returned to Uganda after ending his 3 day working visit to the United Arab Emirates.
On arrival at Entebbe International Airport, the President was received by the Vice President, Major Jessica Alupo Epel, the Minister for Presidency, Hon. Babirye Milly Babalanda, the Head of Public Service and Secretary to Cabinet Ms Lucy Nakyobe.
Others who were at Entebbe International Airport to receive the President included the Chief of Defence Forces Gen Wilson Mbasu Mbadi, the Police Director for Welfare, Production and Sports Charles Birungi and the Deputy Commissioner General of Uganda Prisons Service Samuel Akena.
While in the United Arab Emirates, President Museveni met and held discussions with his UAE counterpart and ruler of Abu Dhabi, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan at the Presidential Palace in Abu Dhabi and also met a group of investors from several companies.
While in Dubai, President Museveni met a delegation of investors led by Rashed Abdulkarim Al Blooshi, the Undersecretary of the Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development and implored them to interest themselves in the area of local production of pharmaceutical products in Uganda.
President Museveni appealed to the investors to partner with their local counterparts in Uganda to reduce the immense amount of starch from the various crops by putting it into good use of producing pharmaceutical drugs.
He further expounded that refining raw sugar into pharmaceutical-grade sugar is a huge potential area for investors to explore in Uganda explaining that the country is enriched with a lot of sugar which could be used for different types of syrups.
Earlier while in a meeting with the President of the United Arab Emirates and ruler of Abu Dhabi, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, at the Presidential Palace in Abu Dhabi, President Museveni discussed with him issues centered around strengthening the bilateral relations between Uganda and the UAE, investment opportunities in the pathogenic economy, renewable energy and sustainability.
His Highness Al Nahyan also accepted the invitation to attend the Non-Aligned Movement summit slated for January 2024 in Uganda’s capital- Kampala.
The meeting was also attended by the Minister of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, Hon Matia Kasaija the Attorney General, Hon Kiryowa Kiwanuka, the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Hon Henry Okello Oryem, the Ambassador of the Republic of Uganda to the United Arab Emirates Zaake Kibedi and the Director General of External Security Organization Ambassador Joseph Ocwet.
