NEWS- Angry mob in Sazike B cell in Kibijjo sub county, Kakumiro District have killed a 23 year old man on allegations of stealing a motorcycle.

Morris Niyonzima, the Kakumiro District Police Commander said that the incident happened on Tuesday night when Clovis Tumusiime who was coming from Mubende hired Johnson Nyonja, a boda boda rider operating at Kakumiro stage to take him to Sazike trading center.

He adds that after reaching her mother’s home in Sazike B cell, Tumusiime told Johnson to take him to Sazike trading center and from where he would pay transport fares but before reaching the destination, Tumusiime grabbed Johnson and hacked him on the neck asking him to surrender the motorcycle to him.

Fortunately, Johnson managed to overpower the suspect and fled the scene making an alarm that ganged and killed the suspect after discovering him hiding.

Niyonzima cautioned boda boda riders operating in Kakumiro district to be security vigilant and avoid transporting passengers they don’t know in late night hours.

Meanwhile, our reporter contacted Johnson Nyonja at Kakumiro Police station and he narrated the story about how he was attacked by the thief and survived death.

Johnson Nyonja said he was attacked by his passenger who grabbed his neck and hacked him while trying to take away his motorcycle registration number UFQ/114/B but he overpowered him and the suspect took off.

He adds that he made an alarm which attracted other residents who mounted a search and later discovered Clovis Tumusiime hiding in the old building from where they arrested and assaulted him to death.

The Sazike village chairman Moses Balinda said he was escorting Clovis Tumusiime (now deceased) to Kakumiro Central Police Station for custody and on the way, residents overpowered him, grabbed the suspect and killed him instantly.

He condemned acts of mob justice because it kills evidence. In less than a week, Kakumiro district has registered 4 murder cases committed by an angry mob in Kibijjo Sub County alone.
