Police taking her from the scene

NEWS- It was a sorrowful Monday morning in Bushenyi district as a 12 year old school girl’s life was lost in an accident.

SSP Marcial Tumusiime, the Greater Bushenyi police spokesperson, confirmed the tragic incident stressing that it occurred this (Monday) morning in Kigoma, Bushenyi District.

According to Tumusiime, the accident involved a motorvehicle registration number UAZ 876K, Toyota Premio, driven by 39-year-old Mande Muzamiru, a resident of Rwengwe Village, Nyanga Ward, Bitooma Town Council in Bushenyi District.

The Police PRO adds that the accident resulted in the death of a 12-year-old girl, a resident of Nyanyamabare Village, Nshumi Parish, Kyamuhunga Sub-county in Bushenyi District.

He noted that the deceased was a pupil at St. Andrew Primary School in Kigoma.

It is alleged that the vehicle was traveling from Kasese to Ishaka Town when the girl, who was crossing the road, was fatally struck.

Tumusiime reported that the vehicle has been taken to Ishaka Police Station as inquiries continue.

Relatedly, the Police in Sheema District are investigating the circumstances surrounding the suicide of an adult male in police custody in an incident that occurred in the early hours of June 8, 2024, at Kitagata Police Station in Sheema District.

SSP Marcial Tumusiime, the Greater Bushenyi police spokesperson, confirmed the incident and identified the deceased as Perez Byamukama, 28, a casual laborer and resident of Market Cell, Malembo Ward, Kitagata Town Council, Sheema District.

Allegedly, on June 8, 2024, around 1:00 PM, the deceased’s wife, Lilian Mirama, 42, reported a case of domestic violence against her husband at the police station. Daniel Tumwekwatse, a police officer at Kitagata Police Station, stated that a domestic violence case was logged under reference number SD 02/08/06/2024, and the suspect was subsequently arrested.

Tumwekwatse reported that around 2:00 AM, the suspect, who was alone in the cell, was heard talking to himself. By 7:00 AM, he was found dead, hanging by a handbag sling tied to the ventilator in the police cell.

Tumusiime stated that the crime scene was examined by Sarah Nakasita, the Grade One Magistrate at Kagango Court in Sheema District. The body was transported to Kitagata Hospital for a post-mortem examination, and inquiries are ongoing.
