NEWS- Friends, students, the management and well wishes of Mbarara City based Bishop Stuart University are all in shock and sorrow following the untimely death of their beloved senior lecturer.
The deceased Florah Kyayemagye has been a lecturer at the Mbarara City based Bishop Stuart University in the faculty of education, Arts and media studies.
The Bishop Stuart University management confirmed the news of the death of their lecturer on the morning Monday 26th August 2024
“Dear friends, we regret to announce the untimely demise of Kyayemagye Florah, our Lecturer in the Faculty of Education, Arts and Media Studies.
Our thoughts are with her family, relatives and friends”, the university management announced.
It is allegedly said that Kyayemagye who was pregnant with her second child, collapsed on Friday and was initially taken to Neocare Clinic where her baby was found deceased.
She was later transferred to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital for more treatment but was pronounced dead on Monday 26th August 2024 during morning hours.
According to the tentative program released by the university, Kyayemagye will be laid to rest on Wednesday 28th August 2024 at her ancestral home in Akaku Kanyaryeru at 11am.
Bishop Stuart University Vice-Chancellor, expressed deep sorrow over the loss of Kyayemagye. “Florah was an integral part of our community, a brilliant mind, and a caring soul. Her passing is not just a loss to her family, but to the entire BSU community. We will miss her dearly, and our thoughts are with her family during this incredibly difficult time,” said the VC.
The Faculty of Education, Arts, and Media Studies, where Kyayemagye served as a lecturer, has been particularly hard hit by the news. Her colleagues describe her as a dedicated professional who was always willing to go the extra mile for her students and peers. They recall her as a beacon of positivity, someone who always had a smile on her face and was ready to lend a helping hand.
Students who were fortunate enough to learn under Kyayemagye’s guidance are also mourning her loss. Many have taken to social media to express their grief, sharing stories of how she influenced their lives and careers. “She was more than a lecturer; she was a mentor and a mother figure to many of us,” one student wrote. “Her classes were always engaging, and she had a way of making every student feel seen and heard.”
As the university community comes to terms with this sudden loss, plans are being made to honor Kyayemagye’s memory. The university administration has announced that a memorial service will be held in her honor, allowing students, staff, and friends to pay their respects and celebrate her life. Additionally, a scholarship fund is being considered in her name to support female students in the Faculty of Education, Arts, and Media Studies, ensuring that her legacy of empowering young women continues.
