Great joy and excitement swept through Burembo Parish in Bugangari Archdeaconry, North Kigezi Diocese, as 110 children each received a one-month-old chick each in a special distribution ceremony tgat took place Thursda October 30th 2025.
The chicks were funded by children at Christ Church in Phoenix, Arizona in USA, who raised US 395.70 dollars during their Vacation Bible School earlier this year.
According to the Bishop of North Kigezi Diocese Rt Rev Onesimus Asiimwe, the initiative began in April when he visited the USA congregation and met with their Children’s Pastor.
The Pastor shared that the Arizona children were eager to connect meaningfully with their peers in Uganda and Bishop Asiimwe suggested using the funds to purchase chicks—a living, sustainable gift that would teach responsibility and provide long-term benefits.
“I chose a gift that has life because it is practical and empowering. These children will learn how to care for the chicks and help them grow. The mature chickens will bring joy, hope, and life to the children. If you don’t know how to take care of something small, you won’t know how to take care of big things”, Bishop Asiimwe said.
He urged the beneficiaries to look after the chicken well so that they can grow up and multiply and become household income generating projects.
The ceremony was attended by the Archdeacon of Bugangari Archdeaconry Ven Erasmus Barangirana, the Diocesan Coordinator of Household and Community Transformation Alex Nathan Mugabe and several Lay Leaders.
Head of Laity of Burembo Parish Head of Laity Moses , Arinaitwe expressed profound gratitude to God and to Bishop Asiimwe for selecting their parish, out of the diocese’s 85 parishes, to establish this unique partnership with Christ Church Phoenix.
