BUSOGA– Uganda is uniquely endowed with various sites or tourist attractions that are spread across the different regions. This untamed beauty is evenly distributed and those who have transversed the “Pearl of Africa” our mother land can testify to this.
One of the best treasures that has marketed Uganda besides the mountain gorillas, chimpanzees, the lion and the coffee is River Nile known as ” Kiyiira” in our native dialect.
This natural magnificent resource is situated in Busoga region which is the next big thing on the tourism calendar under the “Explore Busoga Region” campaign.
It is expected to roll on February 15 – 18 for about four days of learning, sharing and experiencing what the area has to offer as a wonder to the rest of Uganda and the world at large.
The much anticipated expedition is organised by the Ministry of Tourism Wildlife and Antiquities, Uganda Tourism Board, Uganda Wildlife Education Centre, Uganda Wildlife Authority together with other key stakeholders in the industry.
Explore Busoga is as an opener of the year and it is expected to be thrilling, exciting, educational and most importantly to show case the scene and unseen marvel of the region.
Additionally, the region is made up of districts such as: Jinja, Kamuli, Iganga, Bugiri, Mayuge, Luuka, Bugweri, Buyende , Kaliro, Namutumba and Namayingo.
All these districts have their special features and are under their cultural leader called the Kyabazinga or ” Isebantu ” meaning the father of the land currently His Highness Wilberforce Nadiope Gabula IV who is the reigning supreme leader.
Notably, as one embarks on the touring mission there are activities and places that one should definitely check out.
– Source of the Nile
This is one of the most treasured resources in Uganda and has been able to market Uganda at all levels since the Nile is the longest Fresh water river in the world. Some tourists just come to take selfies, share locations pins to verify that they have touch based at the greatest river in the world.
– Kagulu Rocks.
These are gaining momentum annually and their recognition is rising at bottle neck speed due to the famous hiking annual event. People from all walks of life come through to enjoy and exercise as they tour and enjoy the experience.
It is found in Buyende one of the new districts and it is worth that challenge.
At the Rocks, one will have an opportunity to make the former Idi Amin’s trail who was one of the greatest presidents of Uganda.
The latter made the trail in 1972 shortly after he was declared the president of Uganda and had plans of setting up a palace because of the spectacular view and the caves.
– Bujagali Falls.
While in Primary School, this was one of the most visited places for most of you that did social studies and it was on the bucket list among the places we visited during our trips back then. We could tell stories for about a month after the trip and the most fascinating thing was divers that usually used Jerry cans to navigate through the roaring falls to the other side that was relatively calm.
Up to now, the falls should never miss on your to do list in case you check in Jinja.
– Dolwe Rocks.
These have a great and interesting history since they were previously occupied by the Banyoro- Busoga who settled there about 600 years or more ago.
It has beautiful and fascinating rocks that marvel because of how they twin and interlock with each other to form “Stored- like houses.
It’s about 2- 3 hours and it is situated in Mayuge district.

– Railway Museum.
This mode of transport is not very common in Uganda and Africa yet it one of the most common in Europe because it is very affordable and helps to ease traffic jam because of the number it takes. At the Museum, one will get to know about the history of the Railway transport before its introduction, during and after in Uganda. One gets to see and watch videos of how this means of transport has evolved over years.
During the colonial days, this was one of the best means for movement of raw materials and passengers across East African countries and beyond. In Uganda, we had the Kilembe Mines and the copper, cotton, coffee; tea and others were transported using this.
This attraction is located on Jinja – Iganga High way and with the recent developments the youth have been catered for with theme night parties, film sections in the locomotives, market day and many others.
– Sugar and other Manufacturing Factories.
The region has the highest number of Sugar factories in the country that include; Kakira, Mayuge, Kaliro and other manufacturing and agro processing plants . These are very important for inspiration and offer the real practical experience for those who are willing to start up in the near future especially the entrepreneurs.

ACTIVITIES.
There are lots of interesting activities that one can indulge themselves in that are very thrilling and out of this world.
These may include;
– Bungee Jumping
This is one of the adrenaline rush must do things. It is only done in Jinja at the Nile.
– Quad Biking
This is a four wheel drive experience that is done to enjoy that rough ride on the bikes.
– Boat cruises.
This is another exciting way of relaxing and unwinding from usual cruises. Simply because the water has rapids and falls not like the others.
– Zip lining.
It is one activity to engage in as they swing in the air from one point to other.
-Jet boating.
It is done using a speed jet and it usually good for individuals to have a personal encounter with the water.
-Kayaking
This is also a water activity for individually or a pair and the boats are rowled so as to balance and be able to sail comfortably.
-Swimming in the Nile.
Some people have heard of the Nile, read about it or watched videos or seen photos about it. Once they get there, they use that opportunity to swim and have fun in the water.
– Nature and Cultural walks
The region has rich culture and these are the things that are beautiful to hear from the source. With such walks, one gets to learn and ask about the culture of the region at the same time enjoying mother nature.

– Tubing
This is one of the thrilling encounters that is done at the Nile especially in areas with falls and rapids.
-Deep water massage.
This is another form of massage though not physically by the natural fingers but the water from Nile has sections with rocks. Here, the water dashes through that rocks and people get to bathe or enjoy that experience while in those rocks. This is very common at the Busowoko falls.
– Rolex Tasting.
This is one of identities of Busoga and missing a Rolex on your adventure is regarded as a “taboo”. These can be got from any part of the streets with “Nyanya Mbisi” meaning raw tomatoes or any other recipes or spices to awaken your taste buds. It is a very simple and move to eat delicacy made of chapattis and omelette.
As the norm, Explore Busoga Region will have Tourism Ambassadors and Influencers together with big wigs in the industry and this time around, Jose Chameleone, Golola Moses of Uganda is among the notable figures part of the expedition.
