NEWS- It was glamour and an eye soothing moment at Nyabihinga Primary School in Eastern Division Rukungiri Municipality on Saturday, June 22nd 2024 as parents and well-wishers gathered at school premises to raise funds for the constriction of staff quarters.

The fundraising event saw different guests including Counsel Isaac Atukunda who eyes for Rukungiri municipality parliamentary seat, the incumbent legislator Hon. Dr. Elisa Rutahigwa and the former Member of Parliament subscribing to the Forum for Democratic Change FDC Hon. Mugume Roland Kaginda among others attend in person to grace the function.

However, the function turned dramatic as “Team Counsel Isaac” started competitive gestures with “Team Rutahigwa” during the auctioning of goods that were brought by people in exchange to raise some money for the fundraising cause.

This mesmerized the parents and well-wishers present and left to enjoy as the two parties showed off on who is big in supporting financially. During the auctioning, goats that were being sold at the event were put to a minimum Ugx Million each, a price tag that Counsel Isaac further hiked when he bought one at 1.5M.

Amidst the action, Hon. Mugume Roland Kaginda was quick to put himself aside leaving the battle to the current MP and Counsel Isaac Atukunda to exchange some of the expensive goods.

Besides all these, the function became successful with Ugx. 10M was raised and over 2200 bags of cement including 100 bags from Minister Jim Muhwezi, who was the chief guest, Counsel Isaac and Rutahigwa each contributing 50 bags.

The budget for the construction of teachers’ accommodation is estimated to cost Ugx. 100M.

Speaking during the function, Counsel Isaac Atukunda of “Atukunda Education Trust” a charity organization that supports children from vulnerable families said parents should always support their schools in developments as they wait for the government to intervene.

Counsel Isaac Atukunda narrated that leaders should always leave legacy during their term of office as far as developments are concerned such that they can be remembered once they are nolonger in such dignitaries.

Atukunda urged parents to always pray for their children as this helps them in getting blessings from God that enables them succeed in future.

He further advised pupils to read hard such that they can excel and be important people in the coming generation. Counsel Isaac almost contributed over Ugx. 4.5M during the function.

Hon. Dr. Elisa Rutahigwa on the same function encouraged school head teacher and her staff to carry out their role of teaching Ugandan children to become successful in future.

He contributed 50 bags of cement and also presented another 100 bags of cement from Minister Jim Muhwezi to assist in the construction of teachers’ houses.

The school head teacher The residents say lack of staff accommodation has been one of the factors, alongside shortage of staff, lack of classrooms and low pay, that has for long affected academic performance in most government-aided schools in the district.

Kyogabirwe Peace, the Nyabihinga Primary School head teacher, stressed that inadequate staff accommodation has been one of the reasons affecting the school’s academics for a long time.

Kyogabirwe said that they came up with the initiative after realizing that most of the teachers travel long distances to the school and as result, they arrive late and leave early.

Rev. Fr. Conrad Atuhaire, the Nyakibale Parish Priest explained that parents should be the ones to offer education for their children before the government, and he urged pupils to take advantage of this so they can receive services that will improve their life.
