The Rukungiri Rukungiri Municipality and Kigezi Region wider Community has officially welcomed the launch of the “Country Radio Bodaboda Festival,” a flagship event slated to mark Country Radio 87.6’s third anniversary.
The launch was held at Country Radio premises, where station staff led by Station Manager Jackie Tumuhairwe—fondly known as “Aunt Jackie”—hosted a press conference attended by various media practitioners.

“Safety First, Hustle Bigger” as Festival Theme
Speaking at the press briefing, Aunt Jackie announced that the festival will take place at Rukungiri Main Stadium on 28th November 2026, starting at 10:00 a.m.
She said the festival will recognize both male and female bodaboda riders, chosen first to appreciate their contribution to the community—particularly their role in transporting journalists to different areas during news coverage.
Aunt Jackie also revealed the festival theme as: “Safety First, Hustle Bigger.”
Women Riders Encouraged; Special Search and Competitions Announced
Aunt Jackie encouraged women bodaboda operators to participate in the event, noting that during the festival there will be a search for “Rukungiri Miss Boda.”
The station Manager further disclosed that the festival will feature multiple competitions, including:
- A prize of a brand-new motorcycle for the winner, with organizers partnering with Rukungiri Boda Banja and other sponsors.
- The motorcycle prize will be supplied by Yola Sente Promotions, and the winner will take it home on the festival day.
- A search for the best bodaboda motorist, alongside a competition for the best-decorated motorcycle.
Country Radio to Visit Sub-Counties Before the Big Day
Ahead of the main event, Country Radio announced plans to tour different sub-counties in Rukungiri District, conducting football activities with communities. Residents are being urged to keep the date—28th November 2026—and turn up at Rukungiri Main Stadium to celebrate the station’s milestone.
The station manager appealed to all residents and radio listeners to participate and support the event.

Bodaboda Leaders Applaud the Initiative
Commending Country Radio for prioritizing bodaboda riders, the Vice Chairperson of Rukungiri District Bodaboda, Mr. Julius Kahigiriza, said the festival highlights the role of bodaboda work as a meaningful livelihood that generates income.
He noted that bodaboda riders are ready to support the festival to ensure its success, and urged the leadership of Country Radio to continue involving riders across the district so the initiative achieves wider impact.

Listeners Chair Calls for Inclusive Participation
Meanwhile, Mr. Karuma Onsumus, Chairperson of Country Radio Listeners, called on the station’s management to ensure everyone is allowed to contribute ideas—politically or economically—without favoritism, stressing that individuals should not be hosted or favored based purely on politics.
He thanked Station Manager Jackie Tumuhairwe for recognizing bodaboda riders and appealed to both boda boda riders and media practitioners to mobilize for the festival.
