KAGADI- The director of Basic and secondary Education at the ministry of Education and sports Dr. Cleophus Mugenyi has paid tribute to the life and work of the fallen Kagadi District Education Officer Bartholomew Bukenya.
The 59-year-old educationist succumbed to lung cancer that he had been battling for many years on Wednesday morning in Kampala where he had been undergoing treatment.
Dr.Mugenyi recounts his first days of working with late Bukenya in 1995, when he had just been appointed the Kibaale District Education Officer (DEO).
Dr,Mugenyi says he witnessed late Bukenya passing through the ranks from the classroom teacher,to the headteacher,inspector of schools till his death at the level of the district education officer, attributing the success to the latter’s hard work, resilience and commitment to serve which rendered him promotions.
He says late Bukenya has been as a smart, committed, diligent, fervent and sociable educationist.
Dr. Mugenyi stresses that Bukenya also improved and advocated for teachers’ welfare.

In an exclusive interview with Paradigm FM, Geoffrey Businge, Chairperson of the Organizing Committee, confirmed that the burial ceremony will begin at 11:00 AM with speeches in Nyakarongo cell, Kiraba ward Kagadi town council. A requiem mass was held at 2:00 PM.
Businge encouraged mourners to arrive on time, noting that several speeches will be delivered detailing the life and legacy of the late Bukenya.
Before being promoted to the highest education office of the district, late Bukenya served as a head teacher at Nyaruziba primary school, Kagadi Model primary school, inspector of schools and senior Education officer in greater Kibaale district.
