Dr Brian Tumwakire who won as Chairman of Welfare 2024/25 for the Federation for Uganda Medical Interns

NEWS- The Chairman of Federation for Uganda Medical Interns (FUMI), Dr Ssekyanzi Henry has announced the new leadership of the Federation following the conclusion of successful but competitive election of the new National Executive Committee.

According to an official statement dated September 23rd 2024, Dr Ssekyanzi said that the election which were held on September 21st 2024, were smoothly held without any incidence and all candidates, have expressed satisfaction over the exercise.

The Federation Electoral Commission Chairman expressed grateful to the entire Electoral Commission, the candidates and especially Dr Andrew Twinamatsiko who provided invaluable technical support with the online voting system.

Dr Ssekyanzi said that a total of 482 members participated in the election where 7 votes were cancelled because they were incomplete and therefore lacked verification of their membership status.

The Federation for Uganda Medical Interns Electoral Commission has since recommended that the future elections should all be held online to enhance transparency and efficiency within the organisation.

Dr Ssekyanzi announced the successful winners as Dr Magaya Timothy as President, Dr Tusiime Gilbert as Vice President, Dr Mirembe Angel as the Secretary General, Dr Okwanga Ponsiano Ngondwe as Treasurer General, Dr Samuel Carter Ogwal as Chairperson for Ethics and Professionalism and Dr Brian Tumwakire as Chairperson for Welfare.

Others include Dr Dmongs Daniel as Director for Publications, Dr Osodi Boniface as Doctor’s Representative, Dr Moses Jok Koul as Surgeon’s Representative, Dr Moses Copper Otim as Pharmacist Representative, Kato Eugine as Nurse’s Representative and Ogwal Lamex as Midwives Representative.

Dr Ssekyanzi announced that the swearing for the newly elected National Executive Committee members will take place on Saturday September 28th 2024 at Mulago Guest House and hoped that the new leadership will serve and advocate for the interests of the Medical Interns.
