Nabbanja flags off the construction of Uganda Heart Institute in Naguru

KAMPALA- The Prime Minister of Uganda Rt Hon Robinah Nabbanja on Tuesday February 4th 2025 represented President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni at the ground breaking ceremony for the construction of a 250-bed cardiac hospital by the Uganda Heart Institute in Naguru.

The Uganda Heart Institute Hospital project will occupy 10 Acres of land offered by government. 

The President said this is a significant milestone in the NRM government’s effort to deliver quality and modern healthcare services to the people of Uganda.

President Museveni urged stakeholders, agencies ,contractors and the Uganda Heart Institute management to ensure value for money and timely delivery of this project.

“We shall not entertain delays, the People of Uganda deserve a fully operational world class hospital within the agreed time frame of two years”. The President emphasized.

The hospital complex will consist of 3 blocks, it will house 3 operating theatres, 2 cardiac catheterization and 40 state of the art Cardiac Intensive Care Units and it is expected to be completed in a period of 2 years.

The project aims at providing affordable and accessible cardiovascular treatment and care for all the people in Uganda, improve on specialized teaching, training and research, enhance early prevention and awareness of cardiovascular diseases (CVDs), reduce referrals abroad and promote medical tourism in Uganda among others. 

The project is funded by Government of Uganda together with a loan totalling to US 70 million dollars from OPEC (Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries) Fund, BADEA (The Arab Bank of Economic Development in Africa) and SFD (Saudi Fund for Development).
