NEWS– Kinkizi West Member of Parliament Hon James Ruggi Kaberuka has pledged to support activities being carried out by Rotary Club of Kihihi in Kanungu District in order for them to fulfill their work plans. 

Hon Kaberuka made the remarks at the installation ceremony of the new President for the Rotary Club of Kihihi and Rotaract Club of Uganda Nursing School Bwindi that took place at Rovins Gardens Hotel in Kihihi Town Council where he hailed the Rotary movement across the world staying that its members turn out to be good leaders in their communities.

Hon Kaberuka who was accompanied by his wife Shallon Kaberuka hailed the Rotary Club of Kihihi for coming up with a workplan that is geared at mitigating the effects of climate change and environmental degradation and pledged to donate 100 tree seedlings to support the project.

He noted that over the years, Rotary International has positively impacted on peoples lives and has also taken the communities to another level by getting involved in promoting quality education and good health among others sectors.

During the function, the Vice Country Chair-Elect of Rotary in Uganda and Past Assistant Governor Apollo Ampumwize installed Rotarian Erasmus Tuyishime as the new President of Kihihi to replace Rotarian Vicent Muheirwe who served for the past year and also installed Rotactor Micheal Namaara as the President of Uganda Nursing School Bwindi Rotaract Club.

Earlier the Immediate Past President Vicent Muheirwe enumerated the activities carried out in the year 2023/24  that include disease prevention and treatment where Rotary Club of Kihihi ensured that the Global Grant (GG) of equipping Intensive Care Unit ata Bwindi  Community Hospital was completed with 4 beds and Artficial Intelligence and launched in December 2023.

During the past year, Rotary Club of Kihihi also carried out basic education and literacy and paid school dues for 3 boys who were abandoned by their parents and also implemented the hygiene and and health project which is aimed to keep the girl child in schools which is benefiting 10 schools in hard to reach that inude Kinyantuhe, Rushaka, Nkunda, Ishasha, Katunda, Buremba, Kiziba, Bugoro Katojo and Rugandu.

The Rotary Club of Kihihi also continued with the Mission Green Project (MGP) which was initiated to plant trees along highways and urban areas in Kanungu District where 2.5 km of road was covered. 

Also was the Vijana Poa (Community Economic Development) where 30 young mothers were in Kihihi Town Council were trained in business management and mindset change to improve their businesses.

Rotarian Muheirwe also disclosed that they contributed a tricycle ambulance under the child and maternal health signature project to improve to improve safe motherhood and another one is being delivered to be handed over to Katete Health Center III in Katete Sub County.
