Inspector General of Police Abas Byakagaba

The Inspector General of Police, Abas Byakagaba has today hosted officials from the Leadership Code Tribunal, led by the Chairperson, Dr Roselyn Karugonjo Segawa at Police Headquarters, Naguru.

The engagement focused on strengthening institutional collaboration and advancing transparency, accountability and professional ethics within the public service.

“As the Uganda Police Force, we recognise and appreciate the vital role the Leadership Code Tribunal plays in enforcing the Leadership Code of Conduct,” IGP Byakagaba noted.

The meeting further explored strategic areas of mutual interest aimed at fostering institutional integrity and effective service delivery.

The Leadership Code Tribunal is a constitutional body in Uganda established to enforce the Leadership Code of Conduct and adjudicate breaches committed by public officers and leaders.

Overview and Mandate

It was created under Article 235A of the 1995 Constitution of Uganda (as amended) and Section 19A of the Leadership Code Act.

Its core function is to hear and determine cases referred by the Inspectorate of Government regarding violations such as non-declaration or false declaration of income, assets, and liabilities, misuse of public property and conflict of interest.
